The Greater St.
Louis Labor Council is the affiliate body
of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of
Industrial Organizations in the
Greater St. Louis Area. The AFL-CIO is an
organization made up of unions, and
functions at three levels: the
National AFL-CIO; State
AFL-CIO, and Local
Central Labor Councils.
The Greater St. Louis Labor Council is an AFL-CIO Central Labor Council and is chartered
directly by the National AFL-CIO. It
determines policy on local issues, as well
as working closely with State and National
AFL-CIO to carry out Federation
priorities. Guidelines for the
Council's operations are contained in the
"Rules Governing Central Labor
Councils."
Robert A. Soutier, President, and the
27-member Executive Board are elected to
oversee the activities of the
Council. Each union affiliated with
the Council are allowed delegates to
represent their interests and present
their views at the St. Louis Labor Council
delegate meeting which is held the third Tuesday
of each
month.
